Sean + Sierra - Elopement at Little Dell Reservoir

When I was younger, I always had dreams of being a photographer. I absolutely loved to photograph landscapes and in my opinion, Utah is one of the best places to fulfill that passion.

In 2012, shortly before I became a wedding photographer/videographer, I drove through the canyons east of Salt Lake City in hopes of photographing some of Utah's stunning fall scenery. On my travels, I stumbled upon a picturesque waterway called Little Dell Reservoir.

What struck me the most by this place, other than its natural beauty, was how hidden and quiet it was. And being just minutes from downtown Salt Lake City, Little Dell Reservoir is an ideal setting for weddings and elopements.

Fast forward almost a decade and I get an inquiry from a bride who lives in California and is hoping to elope at, you guessed it, Little Dell Reservoir! The bride had never been there before but instead came across some engagement pictures she saw online and fell in love with the scenery. She asked if it was indeed as pretty as the pictures and I assured her, it absolutely was.

In classic elopement style, Sean and Sierra only had 2 guests. Sean's Uncle, and Sierra's Grandma. And true to form, Little Dell Reservoir was calm and quiet with only a couple of people on the water enjoying a peaceful canoe ride. I'll never forget the beauty and intimacy that I was a part of that day. There is something so special about being one of a only a few people in the world to witness two people coming together to proclaim their love and vow to become husband and wife. I was truly honored to be there. Towards the end of the day, Sierra approached me and asked if there was any way I could record the sounds of the birds chirping and incorporate it into their wedding video. I've never been asked that kind of special request before and I told her I wasn't sure if the camera would pick up that kind of audio but assured her I would certainly try. If you watch this video to the very end, you'll be able to listen for yourself and also catch a glimpse of one AMAZING Utah sunset. I've done a lot of weddings and there aren't many I can recall that were graced with such a glorious sunset.

All in all, Utah has some of the most beautiful landscapes in the world! You’ll find incredible cliffside views, slot canyons, red rock scenery, waterfalls, and some of the best hiking trails. You can also find peaceful little gems like Little Dell Reservoir which are the perfect setting for a quiet and intimate elopement.
