It’s Fall y’all! For some of you, the leaves are changing; it’s definitely sweater weather, time to bring out the blankets, scarves, boots, etc.!
Did you ever wonder why fall senior sessions are so popular? It might have something to do with the crisp, cool air, and beautiful scenery! I think many of us hear the word fall and immediately picture a beautiful mountain painted with warm fall tones of burnt orange, auburn, and golden yellow! Yes, the beautiful backdrop is one of the reasons, among others, that many opt for a fall senior session and there is no better place than Neff's Canyon to get that warm fall feel in your photos.
Fall weather typically isn’t too hot nor too cold. It is the Goldie Locks approved season for senior pictures. It is the sweet spot! Booking a fall session means you don’t have to worry about sweating from heat or having a Rudolph nose from the cold. The temperature is just right. You might have the occasional rain that interferes, but for the most part, fall weather is smooth sailing!
Where are my boot lovin’ scarf wearing seniors at? It is no secret that I love fall fashion! If you love a tall boot with skinny jeans, a fashionable scarf, and stylish jacket, then a fall senior session is the perfect option! The cooler fall air is perfect for layering! Layers make an outfit super dynamic and are a great way to add a pop of color. Fall is definitely the season for a perfectly layered wardrobe.
Last but not least, the fall colors are unmatched! Close your eyes right now and imagine your pictures taken with warm tones of falling leaves in the background. It’s beautiful isn't it? I mean, who doesn’t love fall foliage! In love with the idea of how it looks? Fall is the perfect session season for you! The colors of fall really add to the images. When nature is this beautiful you don’t need to worry about a backdrop- nature has it covered!
*Posing tips: Remember to keep your shoulders back and your chin slightly up. This helps you to maintain a flattering jawline. It feels silly, but I promise looks much better when you do this. Try your best to keep your body slightly turned, this will help you look slimmer than if you were standing straight on facing the camera. Tilt your shoulders toward the photographer, slightly dropped down and keep your hips at an angle. Keep your chin out and your arm gently pressed up against you (the more you push it against you, the less flattering it will be!)
You might be putting pressure on yourself to have the perfect photoshoot or get the perfect shot. Do you want to know the secret to getting that perfect picture? Be yourself. Achieving perfect images just means capturing the most authentic version of you! However, there are a few tips to keep in mind that will add to the perfection of your photos. Check out these 8 ways to help you plan and execute a perfect senior portrait session!
As a general rule, for a two hour photoshoot we recommend 4 or 5 different outfits. When picking out those outfits, stick with what catches your eye and makes you feel the most confident. One tip to picking outfits is to use the type of clothing to accentuate the features you feel the most confident about. For example, if you love your collar bone, wear an off-the-shoulder shirt or dress. Another tip is to not obsess over the outfits. If you find yourself obsessing over each outfit, you will find it even more difficult to pick out the outfits you want to wear. Don’t second guess your choices!! During your Design and Wardrobe consultation, if Sarah Lindsay notices something that won’t photograph well, she will help you replace that outfit so you look your best on camera.
While having your hair and makeup professionally done is a bonus, it is important that you pick out how you want to wear your hair and the type of makeup look you want. We recommend that your makeup is natural, just a little heavier than what you would normally wear. You likely want to feel all dolled up, but we also want to make sure we capture your natural beauty as well. Using makeup to add to your beauty is what we hope to do! This same idea applies to hairstyles. Pick something that you know you love and have tried before! We suggest soft curls for most of our clients.
Because your hands are visible in almost every shot we take, having a fresh manicure is a good idea. Plus it's an excellent way to pamper yourself before your big photoshoot. The trendy thing to do right now is to have bright colors. While that might be very fashionable now, will it be in 20 years? Our hope is that your images are timeless and that you look back and still love those photos. Because of this, we recommend that you pick a soft, neutral color!
Accessorizing your outfit for a photo shoot can be a fun and creative way to add an extra layer of personality and style to your look. With the right accessories, you can transform an ordinary outfit into something extraordinary. Whether it’s jewelry, hats, bags or scarves or in Nadia's case here, a graduation stole.
Senior pictures are to be a reward and an exciting experience. That is all we want for you. We want you to know your strength, beauty, accomplishments, and remember who exactly you were at this monumental time. The biggest tip we have is to enjoy the experience. It is our job to nail the shot, your only job is to just enjoy it. On the day of your session, take the day off, maybe do some of your favorite things. When it comes to your hair and makeup, give your input of what you like and then sit back, relax, and enjoy the pampering. Remembering that you are enough and that the tips the photographer gives will only add to who you are.
